Greek air traffic controllers call weekend strike over airport fees

Greek air traffic controllers are set to go on strike this coming weekend (October 4 and 5) in protest at the use of airport charges.

The union representing the controllers called for the protest action after a ministerial decision gave the Public Debt Management Agency (PDMA) access to airport fees.

The air traffic controllers said in a statement that this money was meant to be used to improve air travel and not to cover budget shortfalls.

It remains to be seen if the strike will be allowed to go ahead as courts often prevent air traffic controllers from walking off the job due to safety reasons.
