Woman claiming to be armed robbery victim nabbed for fraud

A 36-year-old woman was detained by police on Wednesday in Serres, northern Greece, on charges of fraud and deception after she allegedly embezzled 15,000 euros from the funds of a local association where she was employed before claiming to have been the victim of an armed robbery.

Police said the woman claimed to have been attacked on the premises of the association by two masked men who threatened her with a knife and forced her to hand over the cash. Investigators established, however, that there had been no such raid and the woman had stolen the money herself.
