Broken bottle murder charges
A British tourist was charged yesterday with Tuesday’s fatal stabbing, with a broken bottle, of a UK teenager during a drunken brawl in a nightclub on Rhodes. Police said Peter Mark Navarro, 21, had admitted to killing Paddy Doran, 17, during the fight at the increasingly notorious Faliraki resort, a seaside strip of pubs and clubs highly popular among young Britons. Navarro is understood to have claimed he stabbed Doran in the throat after the teenager slapped him. Another 10 British nationals were charged yesterday by Rhodes prosecutor Giorgos Iconomou in connection with the murder – five with complicity and the rest with participation in the fatal brawl and drugs offenses. Today, Iconomou has summoned local British travel agency representatives to discuss the increasingly riotous behavior of young UK nationals on Rhodes. Last Tuesday, a 30-year-old British tourist was crushed to death at Faliraki trying to wriggle under a dustbin lorry, in what appears to have been a drunken dare that went badly wrong.
