Expelled Golden Dawn MP appeals for pre-trial custody release

Expelled far-right lawmaker Stathis Boukouras, who was ousted from Golden Dawn in March after distancing himself from the party, has filed an appeal to be released from pre-trial custody.

His appeal comes as prosecutors prepare to go to trial to prove that the independent MP’s former party, Golden Dawn, constitutes a criminal organization and that its deputies, most of its officials, including its leader, and a number of party members are guilty of criminal acts.

In his appeal, Boukouras, who is currently on remand at a prison in Nafplio, claims that he should not be put on trial with the other members of Golden Dawn and asks that he be granted conditional release. Previous similar appeals have been rejected.
