Evangelismos doctors call for tools to operate on cerebral arteries

Doctors at Evangelismos Hospital in Athens on Wednesday called on management to provide them with the equipment and resources needed to operate on cerebral arteries to treat brain hemorrhaging, aneurisms and tumors.

According to the doctors, only one public hospital and two military units can currently carry out such procedures.

This means that most of the 1,200 cases recorded in Greece each year end up being treated at private hospitals, which costs social security funds and patients a total of 30 million euros per year.

Evangelismos’s executive board recently decided that the operations should be carried out at the hospital but the doctors said the same decision was taken 14 years ago and nothing happened.
