Golden Dawn MP cleared of involvement in attack on migrant stalls in Mesolongi

A court in Mesolongi, western Greece, on Friday cleared Golden Dawn deputy Constantinos Barbarousis of any involvement in an incident at an open-air market in the town in September 2012 when migrants’ stalls were smashed.

Video footage had shown the deputy for Aetaloacarnania walking through the street market as part of a self-appointed inspection ordered by the party during which migrant street traders were asked to display licenses. Members and supporters of the party are alleged to have smashed up some of the stalls.

All 16 of the neofascist party’s MPs, two former lawmkakers, and dozens of members and supporters have been implicated in the party’s alleged criminal activities. A trial is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
