New suspect in heroin probe

A businessman who tried to hire the Noor One tanker, which was seized in June after more than a ton of heroin was found on board, is due to appear before investigating magistrate Maria Skarpou on Tuesday, Kathimerini has learned.

The 52-year-old tried to hire the vessel to transport oil from Libya to Greece but denies any role in drug smuggling. Sources said that the businessman, who has not been named, is being treated as a suspect by Skarpou.

Five Indian crew members of the Togo-flagged tanker, a 41-year-old Turk and a 53-year-old Greek have so far been arrested in connection to the case.
