Lagarde clarifies issue of threats over Greek tax evasion

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde on Monday wrote to Greek Justice Minister Haralambos Athanasiou clarifying that threats she has alluded to having received over comments regarding tax evasion in Greece were made over social media and not addressed to her personally.

Lagarde told the Financial Times in an interview in September that “when I have talked about Greece and its taxes before, I got death threats and we had to increase security.”

Her comments prompted a probe by Greek authorities.
