Public transport services to be disrupted on Nov 27 due to general strike

Fixed-track public transport services were expected to be disrupted on Thursday, November 27, as unions join a 24-hour general strike called by civil servants’ umbrella union ADEDY and its private sector counterpart, GSEE, on the same day.

The industrial action is primarily targeting the coalition government’s 2015 national budget which is set to be voted through Parliament in December.

Electric railway Kifissia-Piraeus (ISAP) and Athens metro employees were set to walk off the job from about 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. onwards, a joint statement released by transport unions noted on Thursday. Tram services were also being halted from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and then from 5 p.m. onwards.

Buses and trolleys were expected to run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. while no disruptions were expected on intercity trains and suburban rail services (proastiakos).
