Aristotle University deputy rector resigns
Professor Ioannis Tzifopoulos on Tuesday resigned as deputy rector of Thessaloniki’s Aristotle University following the release by a group of philosophy students of television footage in which he commented that those in positions of power should be “fascistized.”
“If you go overboard you should get a slap across the face and calm down, which is what happens in all serious countries across the world such as Germany, Canada and Australia,” Tzifopoulos commented in the televised interview.
Aristotle University rector Pericles Mitkas accepted Tzifopoulos’s resignation on Tuesday, while a statement released by the university on the same day noted that Tzifopoulos’s opinions, as expressed on the television show, did not reflect those of the institution.
