Assault rifle recovered from Piraeus port not used in bar attack

A Kalashnikov assault rifle recovered by divers from the port of Piraeus on Monday is not the one used in an attack on a bar in the port neighborhood of Mikrolimano last month, which led to more than 10 people being injured, police forensics experts confirmed on Tuesday.

Authorities, however, are still looking for a AK-47 similar rifle believed to belong to the chief suspect of the assault, 31-year-old Arber Bako, an Albanian national also linked to another three similar attacks in the Greek capital, one of which resulted in a death.

Bako is due to appear before the magistrate investigating the Mikrolimano attack later on Tuesday.
