Arsonists and vandals target banks, public buildings in overnight barrage of attacks

Arsonists and vandals targeted a series of banks and public buildings in overnight attacks that caused no injuries, police said on Friday.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday night, assailants used a sledgehammer to smash the glass facade of a branch of Alpha Bank in Glyfada, southern Athens, before lobbing Molotov cocktails inside the premises.

At 10.30 p.m., a group of around 15 youths pelted the police precinct in Vyronas, central Athens, with firebombs, causing damage.

Between 3 and 4 a.m. on Friday, arsonists torched vehicles belonging to OTE telecom in an Athens parking lot and ATMs in the Athens neighborhoods of Petralona and Neos Kosmos. And shortly before 5 a.m., unidentified assailants hurled firebombs at the central Evelpidon court complex.
