Thessaloniki city services, NGOs pool forces to help homeless

The Municipality of Thessaloniki on Wednesday called a meeting of state and nongovernmental bodies to put together a plan to provide the northern port city’s homeless population with shelter during extreme weather.

Drug rehabilitation programs OKANA and KETHEA, as well as NGOs Doctors of the World and Praksis, are to compile a list of the city’s homeless and seek emergency accommodation for them.

The municipal authority also pledged three KAPI senior citizens’ day centers, where NGOs and church groups can distribute meals and clothing.
