Son of accused Cypriot minister becomes victim of brutal assault

The son of former Cypriot Interior Minister Dinos Michailides, who is on trial for money laundering in arms deals involving Greece’s ex-Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, has been seriously injured in an attack in southern Athens.

Marios Michailides suffered a head injury and broken ribs when three men attacked him at a hotel in Palaio Faliro on Tuesday.

A coroner found signs that there had also been an attempt to strangle Michailides.

Police have asked for CCTV footage from the hotel and neighboring buildings.

The ex-minister’s other son, Michalis, is also on trial in Athens for money laundering. He completed his testimony on Wednesday. His father concluded on Monday.
