Regional employees attacked during gas station inspection

The Attica Regional Authority on Thursday said that a team of employees sent to inspect a gas station as part of a crackdown on fuel smuggling and adulteration was attacked by several people at the business and injured.

Attica Governor Rena Dourou has informed judicial authorities of the incident and demanded an inquiry.

Meanwhile, a serviceman was arrested in northern Greece on Thursday after a search of his home revealed 4,500 liters of unregistered fuel stored in metal barrels.

The officer, who will face a court martial, is believed to have smuggled some of the fuel from Bulgaria and stolen the rest from the unit where he serves.
