GD’s Kasidiaris charged for recording chat with ex PM aide

A prosecutor on Friday brought charges against the spokesman of neofascist Golden Dawn, Ilias Kasidiaris, in connection with the latter’s recording of a conversation a year ago with the then cabinet secretary Panagiotis Baltakos regarding a judicial investigation into alleged criminal activities linked to the party.

Kasidiaris, who is in Attica’s high-security Korydallos Prison awaiting trial on a string of criminal charges related to GD’s alleged illegal activities, now also faces charges of manufacturing and using an illegal recording. The prosecutor brought the charges a few days after Greek MPs’ voted to lift the lawmaker’s immunity.

Kasidiaris’ leaking of the video last year led to the resignation of Baltakos, once a close aide to Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.
