Parliament’s ethics committee to look into independent MPs’ comments

Parliament’s ethics committee is to investigate comments made by two independent MPs, Odysseas Voudouris and Theodoros Parastatidis, in which they appeared to cast doubt on the motives of lawmakers who voted for the government’s presidential candidate.

Their comments, made in the wake of bribery allegations from Independent Greeks, prompted criticism from the government and some non-aligned MPs. Independent deputy Spyros Lykoudis accused the pair of being “political worms.”

Voudouris and Parastatidis insisted that their comments had been misinterpreted. PASOK called on SYRIZA to ensure that the two MPs are excluded from the leftist party’s candidates list in the future. SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said he would decide who is on the party’s list, not his political rivals.
