City of Athens dishes up Christmas lunch for 800

The City of Athens served about 800 people at its free Christmas lunch which took place at an indoor stadium in the district of Rouf, west of the city center.

Food bags were distributed to about 100 people who were unable to find a free seat at any of the tables. Dozens of municipal employees and volunteers helped serve the diners, including families with young children and a number of elderly people.

Officials said most of the people were Greek, although they did note an increase in the number of migrants – mainly from Afghanistan and Syria – compared to previous years.
