Bride struck down by falling branch

A young bride was in serious condition in a Thessaloniki hospital yesterday after being struck by a falling tree branch while posing for photographs after her wedding near Drama in northern Greece on Saturday. Anastasia Straga, 23, and her husband Anastasios Antoniadis, 25, who was unhurt, were being photographed with the rest of the wedding party in a park outside the church when a branch began to fall off an elm towering above them. «It was a large branch that fell,» said photographer Petros Fahouridis. «Most of the people got away in time. The bride tried to get away but she ran under the falling branch.» Others said she was hampered by the folds of her wedding dress. The bride was taken to Drama hospital but later transferred to Thessaloniki, where hospital officials said she was having difficulty breathing due to chest injuries.
