Michalis Theoharidis named interior minister to oversee polls

Former Supreme Court president Michalis Theocharidis is due to be sworn in on Wednesday as the interim interior minister ahead of snap elections on January 25.

He will replace Argyris Dinopoulos, who was appointed in the June cabinet reshuffle.

It is traditional for interior ministers to be replaced with politically neutral figures before national elections as they are responsible for overseeing the voting process.

Main opposition SYRIZA had asked for the justice and public order ministers to be replaced as well.
