Xeros may have been financed by convicted criminals serving time

Greek police officials have raised the possibility that convicted terrorist Christoforos Xeros’s activities while on the run may have been financed by convicted criminals serving time in local correctional facilities, Kathimerini understands.

On Wednesday, authorities officially announced that two stolen vehicles had been discovered outside a property used by Xeros in the area of Loutraki, west of Athens. Police believe one of the vehicles, a white van, was to be used in an alleged attack against Korydallos Prison aimed at aiding imprisoned members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire guerilla group to escape.

Xeros disappeared while on furlough in January last year. He was arrested in the area of Anavyssos last Saturday.
