Municipal workers in Greece to strike over withheld bonuses
The union representing municipal workers, known by its acronym, POE-OTA, on Thursday called on its members to walk off the job in the week leading up to general elections on January 25 as a protest against the fact that a large number of municipal staff are not eligible for the bonus employees are usually paid for working in election periods as they have pending debts to the state.
POE-OTA also noted that staff who do not have a so-called tax clearance certificate did not receive a bonus for work over the local authority and European Parliament elections last May.
