Snowbound holidaymakers rescued from Crete monastery

A large-scale operation on Saturday involving members of the EMAK special rescue team and the Greek coast guard led to the evacuation of a group of about 50 vacationers who had been stranded for several days at the Koudoumas Monastery east of Iraklio following heavy snowfall in the area.

According to reports, the holidaymakers were from Crete, Thessaloniki and Cyprus and included two children, aged one and three.
