New Democracy presents state list
Outspoken Athens University Rector Theodoros Fortsakis will be leading New Democracy’s state list of candidates for the January 25 elections, followed by State Minister and close aide to Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, Dimitris Stamatis, the party said on Monday.
The surprise name on the list published on Monday afternoon is that of Harvard University graduate Niki Kerameus, a 34-year-old lawyer and one of the founding members of the Desmos nongovernmental organization, which specializes in providing surplus goods and services to people in need.
Kerameus’s nomination is seen as part of New Democracy’s drive to present new personalities without political backgrounds.
Fourth place on the list is held by independent MP Vassilis Economou, formerly of junior coalition partner PASOK and Democratic Left.
Candidates on the state list do not compete for votes in the elections but are elected based on the share of the vote the party receives.
