ND best bet for stability and reforms, former conservative PM says

Former conservative Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis on Wednesday said voting for New Democracy was the best bet to keep Greece stable and to ensure the continuation of reforms.

“The country needs more than ever political stability and far reaching reforms,” Karamanlis said in a rare statement.

“It needs a government with a clear European orientation and a firm commitment to the national objective of economic growth,” he said urging Greek voters to back Antonis Samaras, his successor at the helm of coalition leader New Democracy.

The party is polling in second place behind leftist SYRIZA opposition. Elections are set for January 25.
