Messini robbers caught trying to flee country

Two Albanian nationals were to face a prosecutor in Kalamata on Wednesday in connection with three burglaries in the region of Messini – of two homes and a warehouse.

The suspects, aged 28 and 34, were caught after stealing 114 kilograms of olive oil from a warehouse in a Messini village.

Police traced the pair to a travel agency where they were trying to arrange their return to Albania.

A search turned up 1,550 euros in cash, believed to be part of the proceeds from two other robberies on local homes in the previous days which netted them some 4,000 euros.
