Prosecutor advises against detained GD deputies’ release

An Athens prosecutor on Thursday advised that an appeal for the release of several detained Golden Dawn deputies, including party leader Nikos Michaloliakos, in view of the upcoming election, be rejected.

The appeal was submitted by lawmakers Michaloliakos, Christos Pappas, Ilias Kasidiaris, Giorgos Germenis and Ioannis Lagos, all of whom are currently in pre-trial custody over their alleged involvement in developing and managing a criminal organization.

The ultra nationalist party’s MPs filed the appeal on the grounds of taking part in the electoral campaign leading to the snap election of January 25.

A final decision was expected by a council of judges.
