Athens man ‘tried to blackmail woman’ over fake profile
A 48-year-old Athens man has been accused by a 44-year-old woman of blackmailing her after creating a false profile about her on social networking websites suggesting that she was looking for male companions.
The woman approached police after receiving a demand that she pay 5,000 euros so that an personal ad featuring her photograph and mobile phone number would be taken down after she received dozens of calls from strangers seeking dates.
Electronic crimes officers traced the suspect to his home.
It was not clear whether he and the woman had any prior connection.
