Lenders to be consulted over collective bargaining
Greece will consult with its lenders over changes to labor regulations that will reintroduce collective bargaining for Greek workers, Labor Minister Panos Skourletis has told Kathimerini.
The government wants to roll back some of the labor market liberalization measures implemented by previous governments and is in consultation with the International Labor Organization over a new legal framework. Speaking to Sunday’s Kathimerini, Skourletis did not say when the government would unveil the legislation but did reveal that there would be discussions with the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission and the European Central Bank before any changes are made.
“Of course we will seek their opinion,” he said. “Our aim is for us to support collective bargaining so workers’ side can be stronger.”
Skourletis said that the government would also consult with unions and business representatives before making any changes. He added that the government further plans to gradually raise the minimum wage to 751 euros by the end of 2016.
