Doctors object to nurses being allowed prescriptions
The Athens Medical Association accused the Health Ministry on Wednesday of putting patients’ health in danger by allowing nurses to prescribe some basic medicines when they are treating patients at home.
The ministerial decision published earlier this week allows nurses to write out prescriptions for mild analgesics, vitamins, cough syrups, antiseptic fluids and other items.
The nurses’ union reacted to objections by calling on doctors to “accept that they are not the only professionals in the health sector, nor are they only ones who have graduated with degrees.”
