Officials decide not to transfer Tripoli trash to Athens

Members of EDSNA, the local government association responsible for waste management, have decided not to allow the transfer of some 4,000 tons of waste that has accumulated in the city of Tripoli after Attica’s Regional Governor Rena Dourou objected to plans to move the trash to the capital’s main landfill at Fyli, northwestern Attica.

Garbage from the Peloponnese has been transferred to the capital twice in the past two years but Dourou is opposed to this.

However, trash has been piling up on the streets of Tripoli for the last month after the local landfill was shut down having been deemed illegal.
