Greek justice minister orders probe into prisoner death

Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos on Tuesday ordered an urgent investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate at Domokos Prison in central Greece earlier in the day.

According to local press reports, the inmate had asked to see a doctor earlier on Monday, saying he felt unwell, but died on Tuesday morning without having been allowed to see a hospital medic.

The man, who had been serving a 25-year sentence for people smuggling, died of natural causes, according to a ministry statement.
