Cars torched in Athens

Unidentified arsonists torched a car being used by conservative New Democracy MP and former Minister Evripidis Stylianidis in the northern Athens suburb of Drosia in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The car, which was on lease, was destroyed. There were no reports of injuries. In a statement, ND condemned the attack. “Any attempt to terrorize politicians will fail,” it said. “Democracy cannot be blackmailed or threatened.”

In a separate incident on Friday night, arsonists pelted a traffic police car with Molotov cocktails in the central Athens neighborhood of Exarchia. The two police officers who had been dispatched to the area in response to a report of a car accident were not injured in the assault.
