Strengthening Greece relationship won’t harm EU ties, Russia envoy says
Russia’s ambassador to NATO, Alexander Grushko, has said that strengthening ties with Greece does not entail compromising Moscow’s relationship with the EU as a whole.
“We do not compare our relationship to the EU with that toward individual nations,” Grushko was reported Saturday as saying to Russian journalists.
According to the same reports, the Russian diplomat said Greece has traditionally acknowledged Russia’s role as a key factor of stability and security in the continent.
EU officials have expressed reservations about presumed overtures by the SYRIZA-led government to Moscow.
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, meanwhile, is to attend today an EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels.
