Soccer fans held after pre-match clashes granted release

A Thessaloniki prosecutor on Monday ordered the release of seven people arrested for fan violence ahead of a tense soccer game between PAOK and Olympiakos in the northern port city on Sunday.

They were arrested outside PAOK’s Toumba Stadium after trouble between supporters and police flared before the local team’s game against Olympiakos.

Police said that fans damaged 12 cars, two buses and two motorcycles.

Five policemen suffered minor injuries.
