Police arrest two people suspected of being part of violent robbery gang

Police in Piraeus detained two people and were seeking a third believed to be members of a violent burglary ring that broke into the houses of elderly people in the port city and used sledgehammers and sharp objects to threaten their victims into handing over cash and valuables.

The suspects frequently used their weapons against their victims, leaving some with serious injuries, police sources said. Three of their victims remained hospitalized on Thursday with head injuries.

Another two people were arrested on charges of allegedly accepting stolen goods from the alleged ring members.

All four of the suspects were to face a prosecutor later on Thursday.
