Shipowner Panagopoulos says his kidnappers were kind

Shipowner Pericles Panagopoulos and his wife Katerina on Thursday testified before a court hearing the appeals of 18 people linked to a so-called crime syndicate led by Panagiotis Vlastos and Yiannis Skaftouras, both serving life terms for their involvement in Panagapoulos’s abduction in 2009 and a string of other crimes.

According to sources, Panagopoulos said his kidnappers treated him kindly and with respect for the 10 days that they detained him in January 2009 before his wife paid them 30 million euros for his release.

The shipowner said his captors provided him with medicine for serious ailments, noting that his life would have been at risk if they had not done so.
