Teens who fell into Kifissos riverbed were ‘drunk’

Authorities believe that two teenagers who were hospitalized after falling into the concrete basin of the Kifissos River in Athens on Tuesday were drunk at the time of the accident.

It was initially reported that the pair had tried to commit suicide after their motorbike was found parked at the side of the national road in the southern neighborhood of Rendi.

The fire brigade had to carefully lift the two teens, a boy aged 18 and a 16-year-old girl, from the cement riverbed so they could be transported to the Tzaneio Hospital in Piraeus.

Sources said on Tuesday afternoon that it appeared the boy and girl had been drinking before they fell in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
