Women conned elderly Cretans by posing as church representatives

Four people have been detained in Iraklio, Crete, on suspicion of conning elderly residents.

Police were led to the four suspects after complaints from a 74-year-old woman that she had been robbed by two women pretending to represent the Church.

Following investigations, officers found that the scam was used three times in January and February, leading to cash and valuables worth more than 5,500 euros being stolen from pensioners’ homes.

It is believed that the two women, aged 20 and 30, convinced their victims to allow them into their homes, where one of the suspects distracted the pensioners while the other stole.

It is not clear what role the two 21-year-old men detained are alleged to have had.
