Workers protest withdrawal of Hellas Gold processing plant license
More than 2,000 people who work at the Skouries gold mine in Halkidiki, northern Greece, took to the streets on Wednesday to protest the government’s decision to withdraw and review the license given for a processing plant at the site.
The Hellas Gold workers stressed that the project has been cleared by the Council of State several times and that they are concerned that they will lose their livelihoods.
“We thought the new left-wing government would be at our side and would support our sacred right to work,” the workers said in a statement.
