Prosecutor orders probe into polytechnic graffiti, alternate minister vows assistance in restoration

First instance prosecutor Ilias Zagoraios on Monday ordered an urgent preliminary investigation into a large black-and-white piece of graffiti covering certain exterior walls of the National Technical University of Athens.

While it was still unknown who had carried out the act, Zagoraios suggested that those responsible should face charges of vandalizing a public monument.

Commenting on Monday on the same subject, Alternate Minister for Culture Nikos Xydakis noted that the graffiti had “aggressively taken over” the university and had “distorted its historical character.” He added that ministry staff would be made available to the university to participate in the building’s restoration.
