Mother of Conspiracy convict released, girlfriend remains in custody

A council of appeals court judges decided on Tuesday to order the conditional release of the mother of two convicted members of the guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire, Christos and Gerasimos Tsakalos.

The 60-year-old woman is to be released on the condition that she does not leave the country, reports to her local police station three times a month and posts 10,000 euros in bail.

She was arrested last month on the island of Salamina, together with 22-year-old Angeliki Spyropoulou, an alleged accomplice of November 17 terrorist Christodoulos Xeros and Conspiracy group members, who was found at the 60-year-old woman’s house.

Another woman believed to be the girlfriend of Gerasimos Tsakalos was also arrested at the house early last month and has been in custody since then.

The same judicial council rejected her appeal for release on Tuesday.
