IMF denies Spiegel report of staff withdrawal from Athens
The International Monetary Fund has denied a report published in Germany’s Spiegel magazine on Friday that it had decided to temporarily withdraw staff from Athens in reaction to foot-dragging by the Greek government to implement reforms.
In a statement Saturday, the Washington-based organization said that technical teams from the three institutions had spent more than three weeks in Athens, working together with Greek officials, adding that several staff were being replaced as part of the normal routine.
The IMF said talks were continuing.
