Two policemen injured in brawl outside Nafplio courthouse

Two policemen were injured on Monday during an attack by a crowd gathered outside the courthouse in Nafplio, in the Peloponnese, protesting the sentences given to a woman convicted for robbery.

The crowd of an estimated 200 Roma residents of the area erupted into violence when the defendant, also Roma, was led out of the court in handcuffs after sentencing.

She was sentenced to six years behind bars.

Her son, aged 21, was arrested for sparking the attack against the police officers escorting the defendant.

The policemen sustained minor injuries and were expected to make a quick recovery.
