Pyrgos looks to ministry for trash problem solution
Authorities from Pyrgos in the Peloponnese are going to make an appeal to the Interior Ministry to solve their trash problem as uncollected garbage continues to pile up on the city’s streets.
Plans to stage a protest at the nearby port of Katakolo over the Easter weekend were abandoned Thursday but there is growing frustration with the failure to deal with the trash, which has been building up over the last seven months as a result of the local dump being closed down.
Efforts to transport the garbage to landfills operated by other municipalities have so far proved fruitless. Pyrgos Mayor Gavriil Liatsis is hoping that the ministry will intervene.
