Zakynthos hunters hurl eggs, yogurt at inspectors

About 700 hunters gathered at Zakynthos port on Tuesday to await the arrival of a group of inspectors who were supposed to conduct checks on the Ionian island.

When the car carrying the inspectors disembarked from the ship it had arrived on, a large number of hunters hurled eggs and yogurt at the vehicle, the AMNA news agency reported, while coast guard and police officers had to intervene so that the car was able to leave the port area.

Hunting is prohibited in April, but Zakynthos hunters traditionally hunt during this month.

Meanwhile, 14 teams of inspectors were expected to arrive on the island within the next two weeks in order to carry out checks.
