Government official rules out early elections
State Minister Alekos Flambouraris on Wednesday rejected speculation that the government is considering snap elections, but he did not rule out the prospect of a referendum.
Speaking to Antenna TV on Wednesday, Flambouraris said that Greece’s leftist-led government had a mandate to reach a solution inside the euro following an “honest compromise” with its lenders.
Asked about comments by European officials that a Eurogroup decision to release funds may come on May 11, instead of the April 24 meeting, Flambouraris said that the date was secondary to reaching a deal.
“The point is to reach an agreement, not whether the deal will be pushed back by a week,” he said.
