A Clinton Global Initiative Mediterranean meeting scheduled to be held in Athens in June has been cancelled, it emerged on Thursday. The cancellation came after Hillary Rodham Clinton recently announced she was running for the Democratic nomination for the US presidency in 2016. As a result of her candidacy all of the organization’s upcoming meetings will be held in the US.
The announcement regarding the Athens forum was made in a written statement released by Gianna Angelopoulos, who was in charge of organizing the June meeting. Angelopoulos is the former head of the organizing committee of the Athens 2004 Olympics and a Clinton Global Initiative ambassador.
