US designated Christodoulos Xeros and Nikos Maziotis as terrorists

The State Department on Tuesday designated Christodoulos Xeros and Nikos Maziotis, members of Greek urban guerrilla groups, as terrorists, a day after protesting a new law approved by Greece’s parliament.

“As a result of these designations, all property subject to US jurisdiction in which Xeros and Maziotis have any interest is blocked and any assets they may have under US jurisdiction are frozen,” the State Department said in a statement.

The United States on Monday expressed concern over a government-backed bill in Greece that paves the way for a member of a guerrilla group to be released from jail and put under house arrest. [Reuters]
