Funds released for improvements to Panathinaikos soccer stadium

The State Audit Council gave the green light on Wednesday for the Attica Regional Authority to provide 7 million euros for the improvement of Panathinaikos soccer club’s grounds on Alexandras Avenue in central Athens.

The court’s sixth section had earlier deemed the payment to be against the local authority’s economic interests, but a seven-judge panel voted almost unanimously to allow the transaction, arguing that it was necessary for the safety of players and fans and would help the city’s image abroad.
